For EU and NI customers - the rules for sending gifts to the EU from the UK and other options to get your sprays
As you know, from the 31st July 2026 we will no longer be able to send sprays to the EU (including Norway and Switzerland) or Northern Ireland. However, if you happen to be visiting the UK at any time we can send an order to any UK address for you. Just let us know you are visiting when you place the order so we can prioritise it for you. Be sure to choose Tracked 24 shipping. Tracked 48 is a bit cheaper but cannot be relied upon to deliver in 48 hours, whereas Tracked 24 is very reliable and usually does deliver the next day.
Spray HQ is based in the South West of the UK, between Bristol and Bath. If you happen to be visiting the area you are welcome to come and collect your sprays in person. You will need to let us know you are coming of course, just send us an email and we will give you the address. We'd love to meet you. (Please be aware however that Amanda won't be here! Shipping Sprays as Gifts - Between Private Individuals
Please don't ask us to do it, we can't, even if we wanted to. All the customs documentation is automated and it is obvious that whatever we ship comes from a business. However, a private individual can still send a personal gift to a friend in the EU.
How Gift Shipments Work
The EU continues to recognise a "private individual to private individual" (P2P) gift exemption, meaning your shipment can bypass commercial import taxes if it meets specific rules:
- Gifts Valued at €45 or Less: These remain entirely exempt from EU import VAT and customs duties. If the total intrinsic value of the sprays is under €45 (roughly £38), your friend in the EU will not have to pay anything to receive them.
- Gifts Valued Between €45 and €150: Under the July 2026 regulations, gifts in this price bracket now attract a flat €3 customs duty per different item type. Plus local carrier handling fees.
- If you only order sprays (however many) there will only be one €3 fee but if you order oracle cards as well and/or incense etc. then you will be charged the €3 per different type of item.
- Gifts Valued Over €150: These face standard EU customs duties and import VAT calculated by the destination country.
How to Send it at the Post Office
You cannot prepay any potential customs charges at the post office counter. Instead, you must fill out the paperwork correctly so EU customs categorize it as a tax-exempt personal gift rather than a commercial order:
- Complete a CN23 Customs Declaration: As of June 2026, Royal Mail requires a CN23 customs form for international postal shipments. You can complete this online ahead of time via Royal Mail Click & Drop or fill it out at the post office counter.
- Mark the "Reason for Export" as a Gift: You must tick or select "Gift" on the customs form. Leaving this blank or selecting "Sale of Goods" will automatically trigger commercial customs fees.
- Provide Detailed Item Descriptions: Be highly specific to ensure customs clear the parcel without delay. Instead of writing "sprays," write clear descriptions like "Non-flammable, non-aerosol room spray made with 90% water and essential oils."
- Harmonisation codes: this is a code assigned to items which enables customs agencies around the world to easily identify them - the code for the sprays is 330749 should you need it.
- State accurate values: Write the exact monetary value of the items. Keeping it under €45 ensures a smooth, tax-free delivery for your friend.
We can't guarantee there won't be any charges as customs agencies seem to have a mind of their own! But this is the best advice we have at the moment. If you have any questions at all let us know and we'll do our best to advise.
We do advise that you use Royal Mail rather than a courier because a lot of couriers have strict rules about carrying glass and liquids. BUT just a heads up that An Post, the national post office in Ireland will not carry liquids. So you would have to find a courier who will accept liquids and glass bottles if you want to send to Ireland. Northern Ireland is fine as they are served by Royal Mail too.
